so on sunday i came across an 85 4runner in a guys driveway.. two blocks from my house. i asked him if he wanted to sell it and he was hesitant but then was like umm how about 2 grand..
interior is cherry and it runs good..
well i couldnt get the money out of my pocket fast enough

only problem is its hard to get into 2nd gear
and an exhaust leak..

wen i was fixing the exhaust leak i stumbled into an odd situation"to me at least"

the new 85 gasket didnt fit but an 84 gasket did so i guess its an 84 motor with efi???? anyone herd of this

well i got it all fixed up and even with 250 000 miles she runs pretty strong
hell of a truck for 2k

Go back and ask the guy you bought it from. No telling what all has been modified on a 20+ year old truck. What does the door jam plate say it is?

Some 85s were EFI and some were carbed or it could be a retrofitted 84 or who knows.

Regardles it sounds like you got a bargain.

 

1985 was the first year for EFI
maybe the 85 motor blew, and he replaced it with an 84 and kept the EFI?

 

well the door jam says feb. 0f 85.. soo i dunno but it passed smog no poblem

i got an add a leaf with a 3 front spring im gunna put on today.. i have 2 brand new 31" all terains and one wiyth about 60 % oon it so imma use that one as a spare and get to more..
