my CB antenna install PICS!

thought it was a different place to mount it and im super happy with it, i work in a machine shop so i made the peice at the base so everything just screws together, its much stronger than the stock crap and i didnt want to drill a hole in the ARB for my CB ANTENNA but most of all its different...ENJOY

NICE WORK!!
That is very clean. I wish I could do mine like that. I ended ripping the stock antenna out and bondoing over the hole and painting it.

My truck has no radio antenna (but the antenna motor still works, ha) and I still get radio reception fine. FM at least.

they make a splitter box (jcw or find a wrecked international 9400i , 2000-2007, relativly cheap and doesnt affect SWR all that much)

that looks nice, but why didnt you just mount it to the rear bumper or use a magnet mount?

Castaic, unfortunately because antenna lengths are designed to work within a specific frequency range, you will not beable to use a cb antenna also for your FM radio.

The CB is between 3 and 30mhz whereas broadcast radio is well above that.

VHF= broadcast radio
HF= cb

Nice cb mount by the way. Very professional.

actually some cb antennas have an fm antenna integrated into them to cover both frequencies....I've seen it on some newer big trucks (kenworth or freightliner stuff)

Most Fiberglass antennas now do handle both. The winding will compress as you get closer to the top on Multi-propose antennas. It was originally done to improve NOAA (correct?) Radio station reception but was later adapted for AM/FM radio too. Also useful for a nice custom TV antenna (at least until Feb 09).

Does it really matter what frequency its best at, not really, how many of us have used a tin foil antenna for a TV before or a coat hanger for the shop radio. Wasn't great reception but it sufficed.

Hey, looks good, but I like to listen to the radio. I think I'm going to mount mine to the rear bumper like I did on my old 2nd gen 4Runner & just deal with moving it to open the hatch. God I miss the 2nd gen tailgate!

Oh well, your close by, maybe see you around.

Wow, that looks really slick man, I'm still looking for a place to mount mine on my 98 4runner. Can't decide whether to mount it to the bumper or fabricate a piece for the driver side hood fender.
