do we 03 owners have a clear coat?

Im almost positive i dont have a clear coat on my black 03 4runner but I just wanted to make sure cause im gonna order some more zaino but want to get the stuff for regular paint if thats what i need. When i bought it at the local zaino dealer last time he didnt have any in stock and he said it was the same as the z2 just had some extra additives. SO yes or no??

I thought all late model vehicles had clear coat. My 93 is hardly late model, but it has a clear coat...

I have heard the same as impulsebrklyn.. FWIW: I ordered the Zanio kit... I think you can do w/o the #5 and the Clay bar.
The #2 is cool, the #6 spray is nice, the carwash is good. So, I guess is the ZX acel.

From my understanding they all have clearcoats.
I've seen black in person and I'll bet my bottom dollar it has a clearcoat. I saw the white only under flourescents but I think it also has a clear- could be wrong tho.

Toyota and Lexus colors that DO NOT have clear coat are the same: White, Black, Red (not the metallic), and Yellow. They go by different names depending on brand (the fluffy names go to Lexus), but the codes are identical. All the other colors are clearcoated. I posted this before from research I did for another Toyota car board. I talked with the paint gurus at the region and national offices (TMS, Torrance) to confirm the info. It's good and can be verified through any body shop with the codes.

sounds good BT, I guess it makes sense for those solids to not need clear.

So would your paint chip easier if you didn’t have a clear coat? I hope my silver 4runner has a clear coat.

Probably right

I used to have a 1992 MR2 Turbo that was red. It DID NOT have a clearcoat either. I'm not sure why they do that. After about year number 5 (I kept it for 11 years) it really got to be a job keeping the fading off the car.

All metallic paints (like silver) have a clearcoat. They need it as part of the paint process.
This I know for sure

I power buff all kinds of cars daily in my touch up biz...a lot of solid reds leave my wool pad...red. Same with some whites (not pearls). A lot of blacks have clearcoat, if you look real good in bright light, you can see red, blue or green pearl pearl. I have'nt done a black Runner, here's how to test. Get some rubbing compound on a white cloth. Clean a spot with some Dawn and wipe dry. (you wanna remove all dirt and wax) Rub the spot real hard with the compound and look at your rag. If it's black (not dirt) you have NO clearcoat. You'll need to wax (not polish) more often to keep the shine and protect that paint.
