Terra Grapplers, Load Range E - Need Input

Found an deal on a slightly used set of Nitto Terra Grapplers that I don't think I'm going to be able to pass up. The tires are load range E, however, and I'm afraid it might be complete overkill on my '97 4runner.

I'd like some specific input from those that have or had the TGs and how their on-road manners are in the D and E range. How is the ride? Too harsh, or ok? If too harsh, will airing them down give a better ride?

The seller had them installed on a Jeep (didn't ask what model) and said he ran them at 35'ish psi and they ride great. He's going bigger and will be buying the same tire in 35".

Any input is greatly appreciated.
Dave

im running tgs now D rated
heres my story

after looking online ( online tire dealers customer reviews) i found that
1 airing down these tires will hurt more then help ON ROAD
2 the ride on my 93 4runner is great! im running 40 psi cold
3 they will wear down fast if they are overloaded or run too low
4 heat seems these tires at low presure and hot areas of our country will wear quickly texas arizona cali seemed to have the worst reviews due to hot tire temps.

over all i love my tires ive had them for a couple mths(4) and have 13000 on them the handle great in wet and on the highway very quiet!
off road ive had them on dirt rock and mud. they COULD be better off road but not much
i started off runnning them at the correct psi off the door sticker but moved up to 40 after doing a chalk test and found i could run them up at 40 and get better gas mileage and increase the life
so go get them i say

Excellent info! So the ride isn't that harsh, then? I've read that anything over a C range can be bone-jarring over bumps and what-not as light as the 4runner is. Doesn't seem like you are experiencing that. Any input there??

I don't have TG's but I'm running Cooper Discoverer ATR's load range E at 44psi cold and they run fine. Really quiet and decent off-road. The E rating isn't that bad at all.

we are talking about a truck tire so all in all very smooth! not the caddy or bmw but its very nice im Very happy with them !
i will tell you to make sure you inflate them properly and rotate them
they will wear quicker if you dont
i personally am not seeing bad wear but i did enough research before buying them to see thats what most complained about

id buy these again in a minute!

They will ride a bit stiffer but it's not a big deal between the D and E load ranges.

Good lookin truck there, sway...wheels look great on that 2nd gen.

Picked up the tires today. Figured I'd post up some pics - everyone loves pics, right!? Tires look really good. One does have a patch on it, but it was done correctly from the inside. So no worries. Also, and this is good, they're actually load range D, so maybe not quite as heavy and stiff as the Es.

I was gonna put them on today but after talking with the tire guy, he thinks I can get another 5k out of the Michelins currently on the truck. Common sense told me to wait. Now that I'm here lookin' at these tires...well...not sure I can be that patient

Install, balance and disposal will run me $82. So, $382 OTD for these tires with 3k miles on 'em. Not too bad.

Also picked up these puppies for $150 today for a little side project I'm gonna start on here soon. Only have 57k on 'em. Will have them powdercoated gloss black or silver, and will probably rebuild as they'll have to come apart for the refinishing.

Actually $772 and $863 with the replacement certificates which is nice if you blow one out off roading.

Still worth every penny on a daily driven truck that does see more than a few trips off road a season.

Updating a couple of my threads from last year. I never posted pics of the tires installed but wanted to for those folks that might want to see the diff between a 265/70 and a 265/75 (not that there isn't enough threads out there already). Keep in mind that the previous set of tires only had approx 5k left, and the Nitto TGs were pretty much brand new. Also, before and aft shots are a bit deceiving as the angle isn't quite the same. Still, I figured it'd be worth a post. Next is OME springs and shocks!

Before, w/worn Michelin MTX 265/70/16

After, w/new'ish Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/75/16

And now for a little pic whoring
