Hey, experienced fab guys...has anyone done this?

Alright, this may sound like a pretty bass-ackward question - but bear with me here;

Has anyone ever taken a V6 truck/4Runner, and retrofitted it with a 22r/22re?

1.) I know, I know - everyone says "just get a 3.4, it's way easier"
2.) why would you want less power?
3.) it's more trouble than it's worth.

1a.) What if I don't want another V6?
2a.) I'm not racing the thing, I want rugged reliability - the power gain from the V6 isn't big enough to entice me...I like it slooow, and easy.
3a.) Is it?

I'm guessing that since a 22re and 3vze are pretty different in layout, that it would require some extensive work to fit a 4 cyl in there...but I just don't know...that's why I'm asking. If I'm barking up a bad tree, I figured you guys wouldn't be shy about smacking me back in line...so whaddya think?

The 5VZ-FE has much stronger internal components than the 22R-E, it's just that the 22R-E has been around long enough to show it can go for a million miles. If you want it that bad just buy or trade for a 4Runner with 22R-E it would be infinitely more practical.

Agreed.

Your best bet is to buy one with a 22RE or swap the 5VZFE in. Anything else would require more fab work than most people want to attempt.

If you're in it for the experience factor, go nuts, but it surely won't be cost effective.

It's not even really fabricating anything it is just so cost-inefficient to buy all the necessary parts to bolt up and take the old out that you might as well put in a 350 and TH350 or 4L60E, basically if you have the 22R-E thats cool but if you want to swap to one from a V6 I'd say you were a masochist. Seriously go for the 3.4, it has all forged internals, it's a dual over-head cam, the list goes on and on.

10-4

that's what I thought. RobD, when you did yours, what did you do for the wiring? I may have a lead on an engine...I've just never done anything this ambitious before.

I appreciate the honesty - thanks guys!
