Has anyone had a code 12 before? I was doing a compression test on my 4runner 22re and was on the #1 cylinder with the compression tester in and was cranking with the coil disconnected and then I stopped and went to tighten the tester and now it will not crank. I pulled the code and it is giving me a code 12. I am sure it something simple and I have checked my fuses, but I don't know what else to check. The code says no signal to ecu from distributor after engine has been cranked. Anyone else done this before?

 

check the pick up coil wire coming from the distributor to the ignitor.

I'm sure you've done it already, make sure it's plugged in. make sure all the plugs to the ignitor are connected too.

 

So I checked the power at the starter and there is none. It just makes one click when I try to start it. I disconnected the battery terminals to clear the code and it didn't come back, what would I check if there is no power at the starter. yeah the wire at the distributor and coil and ignitor are all plugged in tight.

 

I see the starter relay right there, but I also think it could be the fusible link which I don't know where that is?

 

the fusible links look ok, there seems to be no breaks that I can see from the top. Still trying to figure out what would kill power to the starter?

 

by no power to the starter, you mean a meter shows no voltage? or do you mean that you turn the key and nothing but a click happens?

 

I put my multimeter on the starter and it shows no power with it grounded of course. So the clicking noise is coming from the starter relay on the passenger side. I turned the key and my friend heard it click from the relay?

 

I'd make a short jumper wire and try jumping the starter solenoid, to see if the starter itself is bad.

guess I should replace my brushes, it would have been too easy to do it 500 miles ago when I was putting the motor back in I guess!

Just Replace The Contact Points On The Starter.......there The Ones Wear Out First........thats Why You Hear The One Click Noise Once In A While......
Its Like 20 Bucks For The Contact Points..........
