How To discharge Air Conditioning?

HI All,

First time pulling an engine and I am elbows deep in the disassembly, but I've hit a snag. Working on a 1995 4Runner with the 3vze I need to disconnect the lines between the ac compressor and the condenser. How do I go about discharging the A/C system before undoing the lines?

Thanks

Ross

I believe you need a recovery machine for the refrigerant......

take a really big wire cutter and cut the line just dont go breathing around the stuff that comes out cause it will freze your lungs really fast and kill ya!!!

but really though dont do that you might get a lot of picketers around your house or something lol

if you wanna do it and do it my the law then yes what freak said if you dont care then cut it give it a small but good hole and run let it sit and let it be
but however it is illegal do do this!!

you have two options- recover the refrigerant, which takes special equipment to do, or discharge into the atmosphere. option #2 is illegal.
if you do release into the air, as mentioned avoid breathing the gas and oil that will be released. it can quite quickly asphyxiate you, and is also toxic

just simply push the valve on the high or low side in with a small screw driver like letting air out of a tire
