Rear window and rear wiper dead.

My rear window AND rear wiper stopped working at the same time on my 97 4runner.

Key switch works the window fine but the console switch doesn't.
Fuses are fine.

I have power at the rear loom (inside the rear hatch).

Does the blue control box (inside the rear hatch) operate the window and wiper both? I'm wondering if that may be the problem.

I thought I'd post this to see if anyone has had the same problem.

Thanks in advance!

It does in my 01, I would think a 97 would be wired the same. I can send you a copy of the wiring diagram if you want.

check the defroster also. If it is also out -the window memory may just need reset. Put the window all the way up from outside and try it all again from inside.

Do not judge a fuse by looks. That has fooled me more than once.

Remember that the wiper is locked out and will not run if the window is down at all. I had the wires, where they go from the body to the hatch, break.

They changed the wiring and boxes at some point. I'm not sure what that was though.

Well, I found the problem.

The PO spliced one of the hot wires going to the rear window relay loom in the rear door.
The splice decided to separate under the plastic cover which I didn't suspect (it looked like a sound splice - why the splice, I'll never know) until I put a volt meter to it.

Moral here is to always suspect what isn't OEM.

Now the window, wiper and washer all work.

good to hear it was something minor. My threads were gone on the wiper it's self about a year ago....thought it was motor....looking at 400$ from toyota to replace. But all I needed was a new stem
