Thule and Yakima should both make roof racks. Does yours have factory rails?

I made one that mounts to the factory runners. I hope to make more in the future but I've just been so busy I haven't had a chance to tool up for it. It holds a Hi-Lift jack on the passenger side. Maybe this will give you some ideas.

James, that is beautiful! What kind of weight (empty) are you looking at for that piece? I was pondering welding up something just like that sometime.

Nope, there are a few ways you can go. Either the previously mentioned companies' crossbars and feet, some aftermarket rails that are similar to the factory ones, or maybe something else, I've not done the research.

What year of vehicle and what type of vehicle do you have?

Thule, Yakima, Saris, and others...I'm sure....make racks to fit all Toyota 4WD's and more. I have a Thule rack on my '86 (no factory rack) and a Yakima on my '92. It has a factory rack, but I chose the aero feet that mount above the doors. I even use a fairing on that one.

I have an extra Yakima rack I found for free with an extra bar and towers that will eventually go on a Nissan Stanza a friend intends to let me have.

I like Thule and Yakima best. Others? Engh...they're alright. Thule or Yakima are just very versatile and supply lots of goodies to attach.

No, most companies have foot pads that you can install. Even on the one I built the feet are angled to match the roof and could be screwed to the roof with a insulator pad between the foot and roof.

Check a junk yard in your area for roof rack. I know I have seen a couple of SUVs with roof racks in good condition at my local yard. All they need is painting.
