Best place to get stock Birfields?

I don't think I'll break any but I would like to have a sapre on hand. Where is the best place to get one? Not the dealer, they want a small fortune.

Hey Schaeffer,
I know you said stock, but I thought I'd show you this anyway. Seems like a good alternative, and he has 3 in stock. How much does toyota want?

If you decide to go with disc brakes then you can upgrade to newfeilds from CV unlimited. I think offroad.com did a review for an FJ, worth a look at least so you have a basis to compare to. My bro Custom Cruiser is a member of Ih8mud.com (?) which is strickly for cruisers. Good luck find something tuff

Steve-

Stay away from Newfields. Bite the bullet, buy some new and/or used Toyota OEM's and have them done to Longfield specs. Christo Slee and I have both destroyed 6 sets... I killed one pair in Moab and another in my DRIVEWAY. Definitely some issue there.

Best of luck... I dunno about that Smurfield guy... I've seen some stuff about it, but I'm not totally convinced.

Dang WolfpackTLC....

You've got quite an investment in vehicles there. Including one of my favorite sport cars. It's been a year and a half since I parted with my beloved 94 RX-7. Do you have a few pics to share? It looks as if you've got some work done to them both. How many rebuilds? I want to do a 20b setup sometime. I planned on getting another one in couple of years after the wife goes back to work, but I've actually been getting interested in the mid 80s 930s. Anyway, it looks like you may be new here, so welcome. If not my apologies.

J-

I lurked around the 4x4 Wire forum for quite a while, then I got busy w/ racing, and ended up just browsing w/ no time to post.
My 94 is in a current state of repaint and repair. (off track excursion @ VIR) I'd be happy to send you pics, just drop me your email. The Land Cruiser is getting new OEM Birfs on Wednesday, courtesy of Slee Offroad and Christo's excellent customer service. Sorry to hear that you sold your 3rd gen. I've been a fan of them ever since one beat the crap out of me @ an SCCA event in early 93'. I was racing a domestic exotic at the time... a 93' Cobra. Full tilt suspension and some solid hp mods, and a stock R1 beat the crap out of me on the time trial. If you can't beat em', join em. In my quest for more power, I joined the dark side and bought a Supra to see how much power I can get. I have a buddy here in the RTP area that's getting over 1000rwhp w/ the help of someone in your neck of the woods.... Powerhouse Racing. That think is SICK... Texas is also a great place for rotary help... Shane Racing, RX-7.com, and Ari Yallon... the list goes on. I'll be applying my engine and engine mod experience as I attempt to fabricate an I/C setup for my S/C'd Cruiser.

FYI the 94 uses a dowel-pinned 13b from Japan (13b RE, not REW) and a modifed GT port w/ a GT35-40 turbo and Motec engine management. The 93 is using a similar 13b RE and an HKS T-51R turbo w/ Motec management and 3mm ceramic seals from our good friend here in Raleigh, Francisco Ianetti. Come to think of it, I think we popped those same seals in the road car... I need to check my expenses...

Oh yes, and NO rebuilds. I never reuse the housings or rotors, unless they're perfect, but they never are... I'm a big fan of lightened rotors, and the porting we use on the housings doesn't hold up well to detonation and overheating.. we remove a lot of material.

Yep, there are a few good places around here.

I loved the way they handle. I of course didn't have a setup like yours, but I was still pretty fast. I just had the BPU mods.
I had one rebuild on mine. The compression was borderline(low 7s) I already had it in for the cracked turbo, so I said what the heck. After it was all said and done. It just felt slow, and with our son that was almost one, I hardly drove it. So I sold it. The guy who bought lived near KD Rotary. I thought about looking for it when I decided to get back into the sprot car scene, but I don't know. I'm liking these older 930s. We'll see. BTW, what's with everyone calling the Supra crowd the Darkside. It cracks me up, because I've heard this everywhere. I saw a video between a 1100 Hiabusa(sp) and a Dawg. The dawg walked the bike. They are quite impressive. It's amazing what you can do with that motor. If you'd like to share some pics, you can send them to jeremy.burden@eds.com.

Here's what mine looked like.

That's the funny thing about Montego Blue... on each FD it looks different. It looks GREAT on your car, but I've HATED it on others... Pictures are coming your way, as soon as I get off of work and get on my personal laptop...

That's so true. I always hated MB, but when I found that one. Color didn't matter. It had 21k on it for 19k in Jan of 99. It could have been pink....well maybe not but you know what I'm saying. Anyway, the color grew on me. If I had another, I'd like yellow, or the spirit R color (what ever it is).
