I was just swapping in some new autolite double platinum spark plugs this afternoon and on my last spark plug I went to pull the wire off of it and pulled the allinsides of the wire out. I was mad so now I have to wait till tomorow to go get a new wiring set! I didn't even pull it that hard and it completely gutted itself. Oh well just thought I would express my anger.

 

Do yourself a favor and put toyota wires on it or you will have the same problem next time around. Probably should take back the autolites and get denso plugs. Toyota's dont run the same without oem tune up parts

 

the dealer told me to put auto lites on the first owner had them work on it and they have always run autolites. wat is the difference?

 

The dealer told you that?? I would fire the guy who told you that. Honestly most imports, toyota, lexus, honda ect ect run much better with factory plugs. Ive been working on toyotas for the last 11 years and have found nothing else works better. If yours is a V6, get denso K16RU plugs. If its a 4cyl use denso W16ERXU. A couple extra pennies for the denso's will be peace of mind

personally i prefer the NGK V-Power plugs

 

ngk's are also good. Not sure of the ngk # tho

 

oh ya i've always used ngk's on my dirtbikes and i only did what the dealer told me to do. so thanks i'll remember that

 

me too always i got a yz i keep like 4 in my glove box always its the worst when your out and you foul a plug

Yeah, I prefer NGKs myself as well. I've tried the A.L. Platniums, Delcos, and some other brand, but the standard NGKs, not even the V-Powers, have by far performed the best and lasted the longest.

Kinda off topic, but anyone else ever notice how the banner ads at the top of the page always seem to display ads dealing with the thread? Like in this thread it's showing an ad for Denso Iridium plugs... That's so high techy... or maybe I'm just easily amused...

 

why buy a new wire set? just cut and splice and slide the boot back down over it. we have done it on my dad's truck twice with no adverse side affects. saves you a lot of money in the long run.

 

yeah thats a bad idea.. you should never splice a spark plug wire...thats just stupid.

Go buy new wires..it never hurts to replace them. I always used the regular NGK copper plugs in my 4Runner and it ran like a top.

excuse me i used a bad word, not splice. we cut back the wire to the non-frayed part, and reattached it to the connector. we didn't do something like but splice two wires together. that would be stupid. we simply connected back the the way it was about a half and inch behind where it was originally.

uhhhh are you retarded? The plug wire broke because it was old and probably the original wire set. Just buy new wires. Most of the time, the difference in the way the truck runs is well worth the, what, 50 bucks? and thats high, i bought my last set for 35. Being cheap like this only costs you MORE in the long run, not less. Your time is worth something too, about 80 bucks an hour.

 

ok, cool. that's what i meant. i mean what happened was is the part that holds the sparkplug on there was so freakin' tight and it just ripped out. the wires were fine otherwise. so we just re-crimped it.

harsh but i agree and in the bay area its worth about 100. also some boot grease goes a long way.
