My dilemma...

Okay, well I got an IFS taco's rear axel for free today (buddy clearing his shop, said it was taking valuable space lol). Told me that it has 4.10s and an aussie in it.

Was thinking about throwing this axle under my 84, but I don't feel like R&R'ing it, welding new spring perches and shock mounts, regearing it to 5.29s, then getting some wheel spacers so the front will match the rear.

So anyhoo, what I could do is take the aussie out of the 4.10's 3rd and throw it into my 5.29's 3rd.

Now here's the dilemma. I've been meaning to weld my spidergears for a good long while now, but just been too damn lazy. Should I A.) Weld the rear, throw aussie in the front, B.) Leave the front alone, throw the aussie in the rear, or C.) Weld the front and rear and sell the aussie?

Lol I dunno. Still feeling pretty lazy so I dunno what I'm gonna do.

surprise surprise sarge!!! i thought, by the thread title, you'd be pondering 'light' over 'regular' beer, single malt over blended... my badness!!!
I'd opt for B. but I'm not you... so I'm thinking you'll do 'a' then do 'c' and wreck the truck and start over on the next one.

Weld the rear and put the Aussie up front. You know you want to!

Weld the rear, Aussie the front, drink light beer, jump it-roll it, take pictures, sell me the Aussie out of your front for a keg.

Easy as pie.

what does it matter if its off-road only, that is that much of a better reason to do it right.

I agree but if he welds the rear and Aussies the front then both ends are pulling. The Aussie in the front is MUCH more forgiving than welded. If he just Aussied the rear he's doing the "three wheel peel".

That and it is SwampThing and he'll probably weld the Aussie up just out of plain craziness.

yes, but if i understand he is open all around right now anyways?? I know he was saying he was thinking about welding the rear anyways, but ether way, he is still open all around at the moment. If he didn't have the Aussie, he would weld the read and the front would be open. SO i say just put the Aussie in the rear and leave the front alone until it can be done properly. That is just my two cents though, ether way its his decision.

I've decided to mull it over a bottle of makers mark.

Though the weld the aussie idea sounds interesting. Gotta be way stronger than welding spider gears.

And naw, I've gotten tired of jump/rolling my trucks to death. I've gotta figure out something much more glamorous... And I'm sure my insurance would start to see a pattern if ANOTHER yoter mine died like that lol.

And welding/spools all the way around is hardly the "wrong" or half-assed way.

Oh yeah the Aussie in the rear by itself would be a HUGE improvement. Matt16 should chime in here for this. I didn't realize ST was open all around. BAD SWAMPTHING!!!!!!

i say take the whatsacalleit from the dohicky and weld the dingy to the big thingy and then on the front take the whatsamacallit and go to the thingamagigy, you get my saying? but yeah the little thingamagig would be fun in the bigger whatsacallit but yet if you take the dohicky and put that in the whatsacallit then you should be fine on the whodoneit right?
