tire-lift-gear help
PLEASE dont tell me to search. I've mentioned once before that I cant do that for some reason. I dont fully understand it but whatever.
What I need to know is, what is the MINIMUM lift I can run on a 2nd gen 4runner to run 35's WITHOUT trimming. For the time being, Im not interested in chopping up the body. Right now it has a 3" susp lift and Im hoping its enough but if I absolutely HAVE to I'll body lift it. Is got tiny 31x11.50's and it towers over them. I dont need extreme flex right now, just something to drive around on.
Also, if I do run 35's, what would be the recommended front & rear gears for this(yes, I know they should be the same)? where should I shop for the gears for good quality at a decently low price?
As for tires, they are 35x12.50s. I dont have them handy right now, but they were FREE!!!. I got extremely lucky. They are practically brand new Maxxis mud tires. Bighorns I believe? Something like 3500 miles on them
. My buddy decided his truck didnt sit high enough so he added a 3" BL and went up to 38x14.50 swampers, and GAVE these to me.

A lot depends on the wheels and tires you plan to use (width, backspacing, brand, etc.), but a buddy needed about a 4" Superlift kit and a 2" body lift to clear 35x12.50s on his '93 pickup (on 15x8 - 3.5" backspaced rims):

Might get by with less lift with a wheel with more backspacing on the wheel and if those tires run smaller than advertised.

Your gonna need more than 3" without trimming to fit 35's on your 2nd gen.
What engine and transmission do you have in your rig, if its the 3.0 auto, i would run 5.29 gears, that thing is going to be a dog. and if its 5 speed and 3.0 4.88's

x-tool,
we could say the same for rockbrawlers. for someone who keeps posting that ridiculous sign, you sure do spend a lot of time here.
Others,
I was going to use my stock yota wheels for now. If I need a body lift I'll put one on it. I cant exactly afford to replace the suspension lift right now. I dont think the tires run smaller because they deff. look HUGE. They seem to dwarf my dad's 33's for some reason. I wouldnt think 2" difference would matter that much but it does. Hell, maybe I'll see if my dad wants to put 35's on his truck and give me his 33's. Idk, I'd just rather have the 35's.
Im not worried about it being a dog all that much. Its got a mildly built chevy 350 and a 700r4 mated to the stock t-case w/ adapters from Advanced Adapters. I just want my gears to better match larger tires. I wouldnt have gotten it if it had a 3.0 in it, just not a fan.
Any advice on who to shop with for the gears?
