Key wont turn ignition. Need help

hey all i got in my 95 4runner today and tried to turn the key and it wouldnt budge. I wiggled my steering wheel, rocked the car back and forth, and even got out my spare key thinking mine was too worn down. Anyone have any idea what the problem is. I drove the 4runner just a few hours before this happened and have never noticed any minor issues before this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the key won't turn in the ignition, try blowing into it, or tapping in it. Maybe you got dirt in the tumblers, keeping them from turning. If that don't work, take it out, and get a new 1 from the stealership.......

Key in, turn, key out. Repeat a few times.

If it doesnt work, you need a new ignition cylinder.

dealer should have a record of the key cut. so take proof you own the truck to the dealer and they can cut new keys, and will let you test them out.
I had to do similar and got two keys for 10 bucks plus tax and they both work the doors and ignition like new.

Hey fooddude, which spintech setup/muffler are you running? I had 1 on my old 91 truck, but forgot the numbers, and want to do the same on this rig

This same thing happened to me on my 95 runner.
The ignition wouldnt turn because the key was so worn down. I used my spare for a while and then got a copy made of the spare and it works fine now

well its definately my ignition cylinder. Anyone have any writeups or anything on how to change one of these. I dont really feel like having one of my mechanics charge me a lot for something that could be an easy fix.

see the link to FSM manuals in my signature. I am surprised none of the mechanics or service writers at your dealership you work at won't hook you up with at least photocopies of the manual...

i might offer a mechanic a few bucks to do it, but i would rather do it myself if possible and save the towing fees. THanks for the manuals ill definately check them over.

Its pretty straight forward. You just have to pull the lower dash off, there are cones on the head of the bolts holding it to the steering column, I guess so it cant be easily stolen. Well I drilled mine out, but after seeing that they werent even tight im sure you could just use and old socket and drive it on the cones and just take them off. Then one connector and put it all back together.
Same thing happened to mine a month ago.
