If I was a dealership, I sure as hell wouldn't do any preventative maintenance on a car I was selling used, except maybe change the oil. That maintenance eats into their profit margin directly. Most of them just wash the car, inspect it for things that could possibly kill you, and then throw it on the lot.

Dirtoyboy, that price kind of made me wince too. May just be me, though. I've had people offer $3000 for my 1990 that's in okay shape. Thought very seriously about it, since I only gave a grand for it . I guess I can sorta see $5900 from a dealership.

I reckon I can see that then.

But I still would not count on the dealership having done any preventative maintenance.

Well that one sounds like it was in excellent shape!

I bought mine about a year ago. $3,500 almost excellent condt. info is in the sig. Had some problems, but overall im happy with it!!!!!

Also, not sure about the maintenance, id call. they might have replaced the recalls if it was there but maybe not. Best bet would be to call the dealership.

The only one who is really going to be able to answer your question about previous maintenance is the dealership and possibly other dealerships. From my experience, Toyota dealerships maintain the vehicle history on every vehicle they work on, and all you have to do is call them with your VIN # and they will give you any maintenance work done by a dealer (only dealers. Not "Joe's garage" down the road).

At a minimum, I would expect them to take care of any recall work such as the V06 special service campaign (if you have a V6 that qualifies), the steering recall, possibly the A/C recall if yours qualified.

They may have fixed anything that was abviously bad or potentially dangerous, but they certainly aren't required nor obligated to go over a used vehicle with a fine toothed comb.

The only real way to know is to call the dealership and ask what records they have. And while you're at it, ask them if there are any remaining open recalls that need to be done.
