I was just wondering If anyone has a yota pickup and has a color change paint job on it? I want to change it from grey to dark green, just wanted to know estimates, if anyone has done it before.

you can squeek by doing the roll on method for under 100.00, or go buy some spray cans and go at it till your pointer finger cramps up on ya.

 

If you use spray cans, spend the 3 dollars for a spray can trigger.... This isn't needed so much for Duplicolor paints as they have quality nozzles. But the handle with these triggers does give you better control as well.

I did the roll on method over a year ago... I've had to do some body work since then, and use spray paint. The roller method takes a few days, you can rattle can it in a single day.

 

but do you think the rattle can will look the same
if you got pics of it hit me up
so i can see them

 

In this picture, some of the cab is still the orginal roller paint job, the entire bed is rattle canned.



And before rattle can touch ups...



As for which one holds up better, its hard to say. I seem to have a habbit of hitting trees, then having to do body work to keep it from rusting any more then it already has

Etype, awesome job on the application. How much time in prep work and post paint (wet sand, buffing) did you spend?

I've seen the same results from rattle cans, it all boils down to prep work and patience.

 

Thanks, I ended up spending 3 days from start to finish. I took advantage of the 3 day memorial weekend last year. Most of the time is spent sanding. First I took down all the rust spots the best I could, then wet sanded the entire truck, smoothing everything out the best I could. I washed it 2 or 3 times before I was ready for paint. Then I would lay a light coat down, go inside and watch a episode of Top Gear. Hour or so later I would add another coat, repeat with a third coat before sanding it smooth again. But before the third coat could be sanded, I had to let it cure over night. Some areas were sanded down to the old paint again, so it took another 3 or 4 coats.

In the end I had orange peal on the entire truck, I don't think I thinned the paint out enough. But it looked fine from 20 feet, and I was able to buff most of it out to a decent luster. But I have had better results with a spray can. I might pick up a cheap harbor freight paint sprayer, and run the same paint through that? I've heard that works very well.
