Just got to virginia from nebraska left monday and got here last night!!!! YOTA made it all the way no problem got 20 mpg not bad for doing 70mhp!!! And also used 1/2 qt of oil....

i drove from appleton to san deago and only stopped in denver for a night and las vegas for a night (just cause you have to) and then 4 days later i drove back from las vegas to milwaukee stoping two nights for 5 hours of sleep and driving in a ice storm in wyoming doing about 5mph lol and i got about 24-27mpg (tailing a big rig the whole time) and i only used about 1 1/2 quarts of amsoil

to top it off the motor only had about 4k on it when i left lol

but yeah these trucks are really fun for water to water drives!!!!!

awesome i just got to washington from utah took 16 hours. first week ive owned old blue (84 pickup) he did great no problems at all. got about 20+ mpg

 

I wasn't driving my 4WD rig this trip, but I drove my yota Solara 32 hours straight from West Boise to north of Detroit (about 2000+ miles when you throw in side roads) and got a solid 32 mpg with the A/C cranked during day driving. The thing has a bigger gas tank than my 4Runner and I only stopped 4 times for gas on the way. Now I'm headed back, might actually stop and do some sightseeing along the way.

 

Drive across the U.S. without a hic-up? That Gent's is why we own Toyota's. Glad you had a safe trip.

 

ive owned my yota since march and have put 10,000 miles on mine so far. basic maintenance and part replacement that needed it. nothing major and no major problems. knock on wood. tomorrow im off to the cottage.....another 500 miles on the clock.

 

Ya know, if this 84 of mine didn't have 5.29s, and actually went above 55mph, I would so take it on a road trip. Though my Cummin (love the motor, hate the truck thats wrapped around it) has made many, many coast to coast trips loaded down and blowin that sweet mmm mmm diesel smoke.

Hmm, now theres a hell of an idea. I know alot of people have dropped 4BT Cummins in their yoters, but has anyone dropped a 12v 5.9 into one? LORDY I'd be in hawg heavan...

I'm glad to hear you made it back alive.

On a side note I've personally driven or ridden in several vehicles that have made the trip from Arkansas to the pacific coast in Cali or Oregon. They are as follows - an old 80's model GMC diesel that had an oldsmobile 350 put into it (the olds bolted up the the GMC diesel auto tranny), an 80's model diesel mercedes, a Datsun B210 wagon that was of unknown age (ancient & ugly as sin), a 70's model F-250, a 70's model maverick, an 02 diesel F-350, an 80's model Buick skylark & a 90 model dodge 3/4 ton pickup.

And we didn't ever have a single problem out of any of those vehicles on the trip there or back....& that $150 Datsun B210 was one of those vehicles that you had to shake you head & say "dude it's pouring oil, it's on may-pop tires & there something knocking in the engine...are you sure you wanna drive this through the desert?" Me & my buddy did though & we made it in one non stop trip. 1,500 miles isn't that far when you think about the fact most vehicles will go 200K or even 300K miles with little or no major problems.

 

gotta love it. we towed our 26'mako from st.pete florida to the keys in 3rd gear the whole way in my 89 with no problems at all. not that far, but alot of stress on the truck, it had to pull in third because of the 35's and no gears in yet.

 

Back when I was younger I used to drive out NJ to CO for a two week ski road trip - ski all day - sleep in the 4Runner...

Best push was NJ to St Louis in one push (boy thats a strange Mickey D's... um maybe I ought to stop now)

 

i drive ALOT of miles, personally i don't think a Toyota pickup would be a comfortable ride that long of a distance. atleast mine wouldent be, although i dont doubt it would make it with no problems

 

I have to say the bucket seats in 2nd gen Tacoma's/4Runners are the only thing I've been totally comfortable in for long trips. Nothing else allows shoulder room. Just got back to Idaho after a 48 hr straight drive from Michigan (well, I suppose we did take several detours). Still got 30mpg religiously with A/C at 75mph. (The Solara, not the 4Runner Thank God for yotas!
