Either the window seal needs some silicone spray or the regular assembly is going off track or giving out or maybe the track just needs lube. Pull the cover off and have a look.
Does your tailgate fill up with rainwater, ever? My '92 does. That eventually leads to you know what.

Any silicone spray will work as mentioned above.
I used to just spray a little bit on my index finger and apply it as needed. I used to get a ton of it all over my glass when I sprayed it straight in the track.
The advice about pulling the carpet and metal panel off was a good idea. Get a flashlight and check it out, it may not be real obvious. You can also take a razor blade and cut the rubber stripping that is on the edge of the plastic covering, if you are careful you can cut just the rubber seal and then when you're done, it will stick right back the way it was. This is a good way to clean it out and look for other damage.
I had to do that when my rear defroster went out on my '95 years ago.

for the record:
thook is an expert on silicone... implant or spray.
but I won't vouch for what he knows about seals. I hear they are protected animals. but he will claim that is an otter topic.

My window did the same thing - but when I pulled the panel off I found one of the two mounts that connects the regulator arm to the window to be rusted beyond belief. It was a dealer part that ran me less than $20.

Yep, if those regulator arms are rusted thin, they will do some funky things. I would try the silicone spray first - rub a little down the window seal, either on a qtip or on your finger. If it still tracks funky, pull the panel off and inspect. There are some lube points inside the door, too.
