Marlin Crawler rear bumper question!?!?

I'm wanting to order a MC rear bumper for my 89 pickup single cab for a happy birthday to me present, BUT...I don't know if I have a regular bed or short bed or what? lol MC's website says they only have ext cab short bed bumpers available:

http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/armor.htm

What is the length of a "long bed" and a "short bed" so I can figure out what size bed I have...

Thanks!

Andrew

I believe you have a shortbed and it should be something like 72 inches or so long. A longbed should be closer to 8 ft. if I'm not mistaken. I have only personally seen 2wd long beds between 89-95 but I'm sure there were 4x4 longbeds as well, but they aren't too popular. I think the bumper would fit the same anyway. Call Marlin and ask before just ordering one online to be safe.

The short bed is right around 6ft. Long beds are pretty rare, like "Luvmeye22re" said, 2wd's usually are the only trucks you will see a long bed on, but 4x4's are out there. A member on here (can't remember your name) had a red 3rd gen pickup with a longbed.

I"m pretty sure you have the regular short box/bed. Longbeds on the 4x4's a special order, at least in SoCal. I'm not sure 'bout the 2wd's. My old rig was '91 DLX longbed, and had to be special ordered from Hamer Toyota there in Woodland Hills. The longbeds were just a hair under 7ft......

Anyone else think longbeds look wierd? I think the regular/short bed is pretty much the perfect size.

I think they only look wierd if the front end isn't level with the rear. The truck either looks like a stink bug with it's booty up, or it looks like it's trying to push itself up off the pavement, with the front end jacked up.......lol!

Couldn't you paint everything besides the weld area and then put it on, weld it, and paint the weld? Seems pretty easy, I was wondering if it was necessary for any reason, seems like its not a good idea incase you have to remove it at some point?

i had my MC bumper in 3 days from time of order.
With out the recommended weld the bumper may move a little if you ever use it as a recovery point. Mine did, but easy to fix. I did not do the weld for the exact reason mentioned being able to remove it for repainting or other repairs.

Seems Marlin has kind of skimped on the shackle mount thickness wise. I would recommend getting a reciever style shackle mount if you intend to do a rear pull with it...

Awesome so I should have mine by the end of the week for sure cause I only live like 5-6 hours away from them...and do you think that if you used the shackle mount and ripped it off while pulling from it they would replace it? Anyone have experience with dealing with this kind of customer service with MC?

No, it wont rip out. I was yanked out by my rear shackle, just the right side

Get some 3/4" shackles and you will be fine.

Oh, and you will need to move your licence plate, when I first put my bumper on it covered more then half of it. But I was able to get away with simply drilling two new mounting holes about an inch or two higher then stock.
