22re to 20r

ive got a 80 toyota i bought for the solid front axel for my 86ifs, i was just wondering if the 20r motor would bolt up to my transmission, the 20r just got rebuilt and the 22re is on its last leg and i was just curious about swaping the 20r in place of the 22re..(they are both 5spd)...any input would be apriciated..thanx

If I was you I would get the 22re rebuilt or find a used one, it would be a terrible waste to put a carb'd 20r in a fuel injected Toyota. If the 20r runs, sell it and put that towards a 22re. That is just my opinion. I do believe it will work though because people put 22r's in the place of 20r's all the time. My 80 pickup came equipped with a 20r and a 4 speed manual originally and somebody put a 22r in it's place and kept the original bellhousing and trans.

PS my first search on Pirate yielded this and much more. I hope it helps a little bit.
