94 2WD T4R code 71
hello community,
ive recently bought a 1994 4runner and i have the check engine light on, i took it to the dealership and had them run diagnostics and it pulled a code 71, the EGR valve. now my question is at the dealership I can order the EGR kit which changes out the EGR, vacumes and hoses which is about $200+. or should i just order ther egr alone off the net for about $70. will buying just the egr alone fix my problems?

3VZE or 22RE engine?
If you are going to replace it, I would just buy the valve.
I'm going to assume its a 3VZE (3.0L V6) for the following info:
A code 71 means that the EGR gas temperature sensor isnt reading the correct temperature at the correct time, or in otherwords the EGR valve isnt opening when it should, or the sensor itself is bad.
So, the things to inspect/check before replacing would be the following:
1. EGR gas temp sensor to make sure its reading correctly.
2. VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve) for the EGR is working properly.
3. EGR Valve itself, to make sure its opening and closing.
If you can get your hands on a factory service manual (FSM), it should have the test proceedures. If you cant, check this out, its a link for FSMs.
