so my buddy is moving and has a buyer for his 84 2x4 yota but the guy wants to hear it run. well it turns over but wont fire.
It DOES have spark
The plugs are new.
It DOES have fuel
It just wont fire off and when you turn the key off it back fires LOUD. I have no idea what it could be i picked my brain and can figure it out.

im guessing its carbed?? the backfire kinda makes me think maybe your timing is way way off.

 

are the plug wires on right?

 

yeah check the distributor, plug wires, get a timing light on it and see where its at. if your getting fuel and spark that only leaves air and timing, i find it highly unlikely that air is the problem so i guess you know where to look.

 

Check the fuel cut solenoid on the carb, if its bad your truck won`t start.

pour a little gas down the carb and see if it trys to start, if it does then thats the problem.

 

Ive also heard that the ignition switch could cause a similar problem.

 

what has been done to the truck previously? sounds like its 180 out or you've messed up your plug wires.
