Last night in Wisconsin we had quite a bit of flooding and I ended up driving my 2001 4runner sport down a flooded street about 2-3 feet deep and wonder if there is anything I need to be worried about or have looked at? I do notice that my idle seems to be lower today but I didn't go through anything that would have submerged the engine, any thoughts or experiences are much appreciated.

2-3ft is nothing, as long as you weren't bombing through it.

The only thing you may want to look at is water in the diffs.

Good excuse to change your fluid out for synthetic

 

The front diff breather goes up into the engine bay, but the rear is right on top of the diff. You may want to check/drain it, but chances are it's okay.

Grease bearings/drive line. If you don't believe me read your visor. It says in flooded conditions you need to grease daily.

I assume you are in/near dane cty?

 

deeper water I try to stay at less then 10 mph un less theres a current then I go a little faster I try to keep from making a large wake of water or wave in front of me. we have had a few flash floods here the last 2 weeks I avoid water if I don't know how deep it is I have been using castrol marine multi purpose grease on all of my U joints.

where I have been going to wheel there lots of muddy water and it is a weekly greasing of all U joints.

 

Thanks for all the replies I think I'll be changing my diff fluids to Synthetic and regrease everything I can find underneath. I'm in Fond du Lac and really only went down one street that had two to three feet deep water for half a block. Hopefully the rains stay away as most streets have cleared but the three rivers that run through town will spill over if someone so much as spits in them.

Fond Du Lac (bottom of the lake) kind of explains the water I guess LOL

 

Downtown charleston (SC) flooded last week, and I had to drive through similar depths. When I was easing into it, the water was deep enough so as I could not see the top of my rims... it was up the doors nearly 6 inches (and I'm lifted).
Hell, I had to help pull a flooded Z71 tahoe out of the mess.

I'm glad this question was asked, as I too was wondering what I should do, although the truck is running fine.

Anything to be done to the rear drums?

 

Drain your diff.....new gears aint cheap!!

 

When we drained my buds 90 22re p/u rear fluid it looked like a coffee with 4 OR 5 cream in it.
