1985 SFA - 2.4L Turbo Diesel

1985 SFA - 2.4L Turbo Diesel P/u
Well everytime i come across a nice diesel toyota i get pretty excited and i may have just found one to buy. This truck is fairly mint besides some box rust but ill be flat bedding it anyways. My questions : are parts for these trucks hard to come by?like as common as parts for my 22R-E's? i know about ford diesels but are these like super asian engineering wack engines? Any pro or cons to these trucks or sugestions or any input would be very much appreciated cuz i might have to go get this truck.

Thanks in advance Justin

This is the right section... My buddy had a 85 extra cab with the turbo diesel in it and it was all stock, turbo with the SFA. I dont know about getting parts for it since there are very rare but it should last a long time. The truck made good torque but wasnt really anything to brag about. My 20r is alot more peppier and fun drive.

But if it come down to it any 22r will bolt right in and you'll have stock dual battery trays. My 81 was actually a 2L diesel with dual battery trays, but i put a built up 20r in it.

I wish my 4runner was a turbo diesel... I'd say it's worth it since I'm down in the states, around here a bone stock 85 turbo diesel is just a myth.

I have heard mixed things about the 2l-te. A lot of people saying that the heads crack from exhaust temps. This could just be hear-say but you know...

As far as parts, finding things in a junk yard or regular people selling stuff on craigslist, probably not. You can find plenty of new parts through places like advance auto parts but be prepared to pay a premium.

I actually thought about buying a 2l for my 4runner project but after weighing the pros and cons, stuck with my 22re.
