My truck (1986 4runner 4cyl) is about to recieve some v6 calipers off a 94 4Runner. Do I need to put different rotors on? It seems all the info I find is directly related to solid axles and I already know how to do that swap. I'll try some different search terms but if anyone knows please help, I'd like to get this done this week before my truck gets towed down to get the motor in.

from what I gather you want 92-95 V6 4runner calipers, rotors and brake pads. the 4runner calipers have the bigger piston size

 

I think you have to change the master cylinder for more volume.

 

non-ABS Landcruiser or possibly (I think) 92-95 4runner master cylinder would be recommended, but not necessary. Best bet would be to do the calipers and rotors and see if the amount of pedal travel is acceptable to you

 

What year are the calipers from?

before 92, I think you are OK (approx 7/8" thick rotors)

After, they had 1" rotors

 

Just got done reading (went to the grocery store halfway through) and that was some good info. I think I'm going to take the caliper in so they can digest the numbers and get the appropriately matched rotors and pads. Thanks for the link, definitely good info.

 

I swapped calipers, rotors, booster and master from 94 V6 into my 86 and all I had to do was slightly trim the backing plate for the larger calipers and swap the electrical connector on the master. Made a heck of a difference.
