Maybe i complicated things with my last post. Does anyone know what systems/parts are on an 88 22re that an 86 22re doesn't have?

listen man, i'm just trying to get some answers, you've shared your opinion! Which i thank you for, but I don't believe thats my problem.

 

One thing that is different is the fuel injectors.

 

I believe the AFM was updated in 1988. I think.

 

Emissions equipment are different....pretty sure. 88' EGR has an electronic VSV as opposed to a thermal vac valve. Plus, everything routed a bit differently. Breather lines on the '86 go to the plenum while on the '88 some go to the intake tube. There's another emission part the '88 has that '86 doesn't. Can't think of what it's called offhand, though.

The '88 TB design is different. It has a couple more vac ports the '86 doesn't have. Plus, the '88 has a thermal wax/non electrical auxiliary air/idle control valve while the '86 has an electrically heated unit....power supplied by the opening circuit relay. The '86 also has a temp switch (for the AAV, I believe) mounted on the thermostat housing....and, the '88 doesn't.

As a result, the ECU's may be a bit different. Not sure, but plausible, though. You'd need to verify.

The AFM's are a bit different because of the additional emissions stuff. I believe it's the PAIR reed valve I'm thinking of.???

Uhm.....that's all I can think of, at the moment.

 

My 86 has the O2 sensor on the manifold and the 88 has the O2 sensor under the driver seat, just in front of the convertor.
