Has anybody put speakers in their front doors. Because i was wanting to install a 5 1/4'' speakers in my front door anr i didn't know if they would fit. My door panels have the map pockets on them. If anybody has any pics of this being done please post them thanks.

 

I don't have any pics of mine, but I put 6 1/2" Infinity speakers in my door panels. All I did was use the trim ring as a guide and a steak knife to cut the pressboard underneath, then bolt them in. They're in behind my door pockets. Just be careful to not poke through the water barrier with your magnet. Some people have had to use spacers to get them to fit, but I didn't. They're short term, though, as I plan on doing component speakers in the next while.

 

I had tweaters or something installed in a 4Runner I had for a day (don't ask). I noticed that I bashed my knuckles when I went to unroll the window. Huge annoyance if you ask me.

 

Its very doable, but its not a good place to put a speaker sound quality wise. Most of the higher frequency sound ends up muffled by your leg. If you go that route, use components and put the tweeter on the A pillar. There is an incrediable differance in sound quality.

And he's right about the higher frequencies being blocked by your leg. On the plus side, my tweeters on the Infinitys are adjustable and I have them aimed up. It does help quite a lot, but it's still not as good as components.

 

Methinks that you'll be sorry, some day, that you trashed those OEM door panels.

 

Because these vehicles will start to appreciate as rare collector automobiles? It's not a matching numbers '69 Camaro SS. I bought my 4Runner so I could make it mine. I plan on having it for quite a while.

i put 6 1/2" component speakers in the front doors of my 4runner. i had to use spacers in the woofer because the speaker would have hit the window track. this set came with angled spaders for the tweeters so I could aim them towards my ears. didn't have to cut any sheet metal in the door, just had to trim a hole in the door panel and a matching cutout of the map pocket. looks pretty clean if you ask me:

 

thanks guys for the info. It what kind of speakers can i use for the 4 inch dash speakers. And what about the rear speakers do they have factoey amps on them and if they do can i just replace the rear speakers and connect the amps to them, and what size are they.

 

if your factory 4" speakers are blown, anything you put in there will sound better but don't expect a huge jump in sound quality. 4" speakers can't handle any low end frequencies, they're basically overgrown tweeters that sound terrible in our 4runners because they are aimed your feet.

put components in the doors, you'll thank yourself later.

if you have the factory headunit, it likely has an external amp that powers the rear speakers. the external amp is behind/below the headunit, you don't have to do anything if you want to put in new speakers into the rear cargo area. i forget what size the original speakers are, i did this instead:

 

rear speakers you can do pretty much what you want it just depends how big a box you want back there...
For the factory 4" fronts to get an exact fit you need to select a 4T style which only a few manufacturers make because of the slightly oversize position of the mounting screws. You can use a normal 4" speaker but you will need to trim one of the mount tabs to make it fit. No really big deal just a PITA... There are several excellent 4" coaxial speakers in the market that give very good freq. responce/coverage for their size... JL Audio and Boston Accoustics are excellent but a bit spendy... JBLs are nice but can sound a little "bright"... I had some straight MTXs with Cerwin Vega micro tweets in my 87 that worked well but bottomed out early [not unexpected with this size]... I have a pair of Excite 4" coaxials in mine now that cover the mids very well but are really limited in the bottom end. These were $50 speakers so I have no complaints they are better then the blown alpines they replaced lol...
If you have access to a scrap yard and can find a runner with the premium sound package the 4" speakers are mounted into a "tuned" inclosure that can really improve the performance of the speakers.

 

Here's what I did for my rears and soon as I get home if its not raining anymore I can get a couple pics of how I did the front's for you. Tryed last night but the rain was too much for my camera.

5.25's componet's for the front (These pods I found on e-bay got 4 of them for 50 bucks did the same with 6.25's on the rear doors)

 

I have some alpine 6x9s in back mounted where the stock ones where. they are out of the way and still sound good.

 

I have some infinity 4" in the dash and they are so much better than stock. No bass at all but the sound is fine. In a reg. cab that is about all I think I can do.

 

i have infinity 4" in the dash,

and some pioneer 6.5'' in the doors, sounds alright with a sub, and my hu with the sound on lvl 4 to the rear speakers(doors) gives it a better low end sound
