Toyotas where represented incrediably well at hollister hills today. Probably 80% of the rigs I say today were toyotas. There where at least 8 really nice 1st gen 4runners out including a really beautiful orange one. If its yours I'm jelous.
During the run I found a couple of problems I need some help with. First is an easy one. How low should I be running my tires without beadlocks. I was at 20 lBS and it seemed like I was always running out of traction.
Second I keep popping out of 4 low. What would cause that? It also seems I'm running really hot. The temp gauge reads normal, but I can feel heat radiating from under the truck and the shaft on the shifter is really hot to the touch. Is that normal?
finally does anyone make quick disconnects for the front sway bar? Could a set menu for a jeep be retrofitted?

you could probably run around 15 psi and be ok, no idea on popping out of 4lo, slow going will make you notice the heat more as you are not 'driving out of it' so to speak and yes, the shifter will get hot.

check out the vendor section for the disco's and other assorted goodies you absolutely need!

not sure on the toyota transfer cases but two reasons for popping out of 4wd that I found for chevy's is bent shifter fork and low on fluid

 

I run 10 psi in my non beadlocked wheels. I have 33 x 1250 x 15 on 15 x 8's.


The popping out of 4lo is the retaining spring. It is weak. Go here and about halfway down the page is your solution.


Give me something a little more difficult...

As for the disconnect. I've been through all the vendors pages. A google search seems to indicate that rockstomper and NWOR used to make them, but they are not listed on either companies page. Any ideas. Jeep disconnects?

I was airing down to about 12 psi. I never have lost a bead but I have noticed my tires wouldn't stay balanced. So the last trip I marked all my tires and sure enough early on in the trip (on the first trail) all 4 tires had began to spin on the rims.

This one had moved about 1" on the first trail:


By the end of the trip some were as much as 6-7 inches off the marks. Before heading back I had to stop by a Walmart in Pueblo and have them move the tires back to the marks to stop the shaking. I may try 20 psi next time. I think part of my problem is I have 10" wide rims for a 12.50" wide tire so the tire doesn't fit as tight in the rim as it would with say a 8 or 9" rim.
