i just finished driving across the country (with a lot of crap piled in there) and about half way through i noticed that before the runner was warmed up, when the auto tranny shifted gears it did so really hard and the whole truck would jerk...it got better after it was warmed up and it is worse when shifting from first to second then in the higher gears...now it gets worse everyday and it takes it longer and longer before it stops.....

my at fluid is at the right level and it was flushed about 6,000 miles ago(though it does smell a tiny bit burnt)....i have a 92 AT 4x4 with 125k miles on it....i tried to do a search on here but had no luck....any help would be greatly appeciated!

 

Drop the pan and see what you find in the bottom of the pan. If you find chucks of metal your A/T is toast. Fine gindings are normal depending on the quanity. Clean the pan, check the filter / screen and change the fluid. See what happens!

 

Actually, you can just pull the fill bolt (AT's have one right?) and look on the end of it. Pieces of crap, if any, will attach to the end of the magnetic fill plug.

 

I would think the filter would stop all the big chunks so a plug inspection wouldn't be enough.

 

thanks a lot guys...i'll just drop the pan tomarrow and see what i find! hopefully its not bad.....i assume putting the fluid back in is pretty straight forward??
