I am looking into doing this swap. 4.3 chev
the 3.slow is old and gas is going up.
so my choices are rebuild (compression is low) or replace.
I have not found a 3.4toyota to swap but a line on 2 4.3 chevys.

for the guys who have chevys 4.3 as a daily driver how are they on fuel?
i was looking at a ford v6 due to the size is closer to the toyota.
any advise is welcome

would like advice not opion on what sucks.
If you have done the swap let me know.
on a budget so a real opinon would help

 

well the 4.3 is a more durable engine than the ford V6. (notice im a GM guy... teeehee). let me know how this turns out

 

doing an engine swap is never cheap, there's lots of extras that add up real fast, Exhaust, radiator and hoses, mounts, adapters, belts, drive shafts, and tune parts. I did a Buick conversion 25 years ago (before 4.3s were made)and have been real happy with it, It was a big improvement in power and the auto tranny was nice to have on the beach. I only get 10 to 15 mpg depending on gearing but it's not a dd so mileage is not that important (but gas is $4.25 a gallon here), I mostly use it for towing my raft trailer and it will pull it over the pass at 70mph+.

 

4.3 vortecs are awesome motors, they are not the most fuel efficient engines, but they have plenty of torque. you wont get the topend you will out of a 5VZ though the MPI 4.3's are nearly the same. Im a big fan of those motors ive rebuilt several of them they are extremely simple, easy to work on, and durable.

Ford V6's are crap never disgrace your toyota by putting one in there. if you want a ford block put in a 289 or a 302, but there goes your mpgs....

oh also my buddy has a sonoma with a 4.3 that has SEFI and AT, he claims about 18-20 highway cruisin (on 31's)

 

what engine would you use for a ford v6 swap? i dont think i have ever seen a ford v6 used for a swap.
