If I remove the cheapo black metal thing under the chrome part of my front bumper is that going to leave my radiator vaulnerable to damage when im wheelin?

 

no, but it makes it easier for coyotes and foxes to get stuck in there

 

although that might make a nice hood ornament.

I dont have any coyotes or foxes out hear on strong island.. but i did encounter a giant buck the other night while i was wheeling in some sand pits near my house. which is kind of rare/exciting to see in my part of town..

 

really all it will do is expose a bit of your truck's skeleton. some like this, some don't. i say remove it the right way: wheel it till it gets ripped off on its own...

Its called a "lower valance". Remove it if you want, it offers a little protection from sticks and small birds. Its pretty darn thin. I think it looks better with it on, but whatever floats your boat.

 

haha yeah "lower valance" thats what its called. Yeah i dont really like it i think it looks tougher without it, and ive bent it all to hell in the last few days.. i think im gonna ditch it tomorrow.

 

i ditched mine after it got dented up on some rock. With it being so thin i dont think it would do much use in any hit. I think it looks a lot better with it off too

 

i recently removed mine. Ive known a guy for a while that took his off and moutned his high lift jack underneath the chrome part across the endcaps and it looks great so i decided to plagiarize his idea. I mounted my high lift differently and left the metal raming bar on in front but overall it looks MUCH more aggressive, little better approach angle, better cooling and its easier to clean. The other guy i mentioned said that he sees a slight drop in gas mileage sometimes from having less aerodynamics but its not a big issue. Just remember that you have to relocate your turn signals. ive been playing with a few different ways to do that ill post some pics tommorrow.

I'm in the process of a 'lower valence' removal modification on my '94 Runner. Got a piece of aluminum across the cross member, and I have a piece to go in between the turn signals (still needs to be cut and drilled), then I'm going to cut and bend some perforated metal to go between the two. Hopefully will be done soon.

 

removing the valance takes away from the looks. what JAY351 did was a great idea for improving the approach angle and reducing damage prone areas.

Dude its four freakin' screws! It was easy getting mine off, cept I stripped a screw...
