So I am on the fence, which way do I go? Both seem like a good tire for me. My 4runner, sees pavement, but is not my DD, I use it to drive to go camping and skiing, but also hit the trails fairly often. We don't have much slick rock here like moab, more dirt, soft, roots, mud kind of terrain. People's opinion.

I have read lots of great things about the MT/R, but haven't seen much for the TrXus.

 

Tons of great reviews of the Trxus, especially in the snow.

MTR = NO siping

Trxus MT = good siping

Also, Trxus is available in 255-85/16

 

I will be getting 35x12.5x15.

I Have been doing more research on the tires, only downside I've found on the trxus is tread wear and balancing. Other than that, they kick the MT/R's but. Since I only put 600km or so a month on the truck, I'm not worried about tread wear. But I will be doing Highway cruising to go camping and skiing, wondering how the balancing thing will go.

 

get the TRXUS..i mean come on....its INTERCO...obviously its going to be a GREAT tire...good luck...give us some good reviews on how the tires do

 

The Trxus MT's are a great tire.

So are MT/Rs.

Personally, I'd get the Trxus to be different.

I really want to hear from somebody who has run these tires. I hear good things about them, but i want to ask a person who runs them:

How are the:
Tread Life
Traction
And what kind of balancing works best(dynabeads, etc...)



I just got done reading a couple of reviews and people say they like them.
The only thing that makes me nervous is i have read on a few different sites people experiencing side wall blowouts on the highway.

Trxus works in the mud. The MTR DOES NOT period. Especially the smaller sizes.

Easy decision.

I don't think that's totally correct. MTR's work well in SOME kinds of mud, but I will agree that on average, no, they're not a mud tire. On rock, they are practically unbeatable though.

They are OK in deeper snow, but suck on snowy streets.

(BTW for those who don't know - MT/R stands for Maximum Traction/Reinforced not Mud Terrain or anything like that)

I have not heard any unusual balancing issues about Trxus, a guy here at work has them in 34's and they run great. As with ALL bigger tires (and expecially for heavy tires like these) more care will have to be taken with the balancing to get it right.

 

The MT/R is an aggressive all terrain tire. Everyone says they are a mud terrain, but they aren't. The are really a rock terrain. That is where they excel.

 

I've got 33x12.50r15 TrXuS M/T's for my '92 4Runner, and love them! They are an excellent off-road tire, with good snow/ice/mud/dirt/rocks traction (I've tried them all), agressive tread, and they are quiet on-road when compared to most other M/T's (and even some A/T's IMO). They air down well, have thick sidewalls with gread sidewall tread, and the tread is chunk-resistant in sharp rocks from what I've seen in Arizona.

Their traction in very soft sand (Glamis) I have found is marginal, but I think that is a symptom of them being an M/T in general since M/T's tend to dig rather than float on sand.

Overall, excellent tire choice. Being a pretty heavy tire compared to an A/T, I have found Discount Tire (bought them through Discount with certs! ) has a tough time balancing them with regular weights; I'm sure Dynabeads would do the trick.

Based on what I've seen with treadwear, they'll last around 30-35k miles before they don't have enough tread to be an M/T any more; this would be similar in tread life to an MTR. Being that they're cheaper and quieter on-road than an MT/R, while having similar traction characteristics on rocks and being better in many situations like mud and snow, they are a very strong competitor and should definitely be considered IMO.

I have truxus MT's and there great! if you are doing any west coast Skiing this is the tire to get you there! I had no problems on the frozen snow covered streets wit hthem and there great in the rain. Off road there awesome aired down, I have had them for a year and I would say 50% of that was off road use. I have just under 20k Kms on them and they have just worn the first little top blocks off (maybe 10% worn).

I have used them in all kinds of conditions, Mud, Snow, Gravel, compackt dirt and roots. they have been great in all of them. I have got my side walls on things that I know would have killed other tires side walls.

The road manners are superbe, very quiet for the tread its got.

My next set of tires will be Truxus MT's again, cant beat the price and the quality.

One other factor to consider is that 35 MTR's run quite small, closer to a 33 really. My 34" TSL's were taller than Molly's 35" MTR's ...

 

I'm not all that impressed with the MT/R in the rocks. I hear everyone say what a great tire they are but everyone I know that has ran them has switched to something else, like the Truxus MT's or Iroks. The only decent thing about the MT/R is the tough sidewall as compared to a BFG MT.

IMO, Truxus all the way.

Okay went to some tire shops just to price them(trxus). They basically said they suck and don't buy them. Anyways, Where would be the best place to buy them, preferably with the road hazard warranty.
