Anyone know if I can track an engine by its Serial#?

I finally got a replacement engine for my truck. A great deal, with only 30k mi. on it. It was a dealer pull, supposedly for a cooling issue. After taking it apart, I found no issues with it. So, I know the dealer where it was pulled, but it's been about 5-6 years ago. All I have is the serial number off the engine. Anyone know how I could track it back to the VIN?

I don't think you can. The only one with those kind of records is the manufacturer and they are in Japan. Vins match options not specific parts. Only the assembly plant knows the serial of the engine that went in what vin truck. And even that may only point to a batch of engines or a date.
