1988 Toyota Pickup

So I bought this truck about 2 weeks ago for 2,500 $$ and it was well worth it!
This truck has 156,000 miles, its 2WD, 22R-E engine and it looks brand new. Anyways i'd like to ask a couple of questions for people who have experience with these trucks.

1. When I turn the key to start it up, it seems like it is taking a little bit longer then a usual car would to crank up. I don't know if that is normal or if there is something I should fix.
2. When it is idling and accelerating it the truck shakes, not like really rough but it is noticeable. I'm not sure if thats normal either.
3.What all should I replace? I already did the spark plugs, wires, transmission fluid, oil, air filter, replaced the roter, and tweaked it a little bit. Not sure if I should do anything else.

Thats all the things i'm wondering about for now. Also I would like to customize this truck some ideas/tips on doing that would be greatly appreciated

Pictures of the truck are below.

Thanks,

John

motor mounts maybe? maybe the P.O. beat the hell out of it in terms of causing the engine to shake more than it should for a long time and it wore out the motor mounts... other than that, sweet truck!

Looks good dude, what do you mean by "tweaked it a little"? If it was my truck, I'd lower it and throw on some different wheels. Then throw on some 4WD fenders and maybe a decent stereo.

What I mean by tweaking it a little was just fixing some little minor parts like the PCV valve etc..

Oh man, that reminds me of my old 88 excab, I had one with the same stripes and everything, the only thing that was different was that it had dark blue paint instead of the white one that you have, unfortunately it got totaled the day after Thanksgiving last year...

But enough about reminiscing about my truck, getting back on topic my truck did shake when it was idle and accelerating, I am sure it was normal for one thing because the truck that I had was "one ton model", which I am pretty sure is a lot lighter than most other pickups (etc 4x4's, and v-6's). And just judging by the pictures that you have posted I am pretty sure that your truck is a one ton pickup as well. I don't think mileage of the engine is that much of a concern (well its a 22re duh ), but (believe it or not) the truck that I used to have only had 56k on the original 22R-E motor, I am guessing that it should be normal to have that kind of shaking or rumbling.

As for the ignition, perhaps you could consider getting new starter maybe?

The only noticeable defect I had on my truck was not being able to go to the overdrive gear, I was able to get that fixed the week after I got my truck and that made it run noticeably smoother afterwards.

I don't know too much about cars and trucks in general, but I hope that helped or gave you some comparison on what to expect. And again congratulations on your new truck!
