1988 Auto Tranny

Well i think my tranny has seen better days. Its the stock 1988 auto tranny, whatever bolts up behind the 22R-E. It started vibrating harshy when i would coast in o/d at higher speeds. So naturally i checked my u-joints, diff gear shape, driveshaft fase, drive shaft balance and everything is perfect. So i let it slide cuz i dont go fast very often. Now it does it in normal drive and o/d, its vibrating when i accelerate and coast and only stops at certain speeds and rpm. It recently started to shift really discustingly too, like weird shifts that make driving all but smooth, i dont accelerate fast either. And last symptom is that its starting to slip in reverse, sometimes it wont engage in reverse right away. My question to you guys is would a simple flush and tranny filter change cure this or help? ive never done much with tranny except change seals and ive done a clutch before, nothing internal. I just need to it last another month since im at school and only can do minor repairs right now. Any input would be great.

Thanks, Justin - i guess this is why they call it the "slush box"

Is a tranny flush and tranny filter change worth a shot?

It couldn't hurt, but I'm not sure if it would solve the problem

Unplug the ECT unit under the radio, it's the computer that controls the tranny. And do manual shifts. 1 will be 1st, 2 will be D, and D will be OD. You will not have 2nd gear because the shift solenoids are disengaged. This will let you know if you have electrical problems.
