Those with ARB bumpers on 1st gen 4runner

Those with ARB bumpers on 1st gen 4runner
I was looking at the ARB winch bumpers on their site and noticed that the 86-95 4runners use the same bumper. However, you have to "modify" the top brackets to use on 1st gens with IFS. They also make the same style bumper for 84-85 4runners. My question: Why wouldn't the 84-85 bumper work on the 86-89?
...Did I ask a stupid question?
