1995 22re... coolant in oil.

My buddy has a 2wd pup with the 4 banger... he has coolant in his oil and is convinced that it is his head gasket... im not.

it starts up, runs like a parapalegic... But no white smoke from under the hood.

Any other ways these engines have been known to let coolant into the oil?

The timing chain can wear through the timing cover on the driver's side. Behind that area of the cover is a coolant passage coming from the water pump. So, yeah....in this case no coolant would entering the combustion chambers....just damaging the bearings.

I would confirm the headgasket theory with compression and leakdown tests before tearing into the engine.

No.....it doesn't. On a V6....certainly. But, the 22re can be just the timing cover.

22re coolant in oil = timing chain rub thru. My bet is that when you open it up the driver side guide is eaten through or fell into the oilpan.
