hey guys,
im looking for new tires. the consensus seems to be that 265/75s will fit on a stock 4runner. for some reason, it doesnt look like they will fit. im running 265/70 dunlops which came on the vehicle and there is little room between the tire and fender/running board edge at full turn. i dont know if my springs have sagged a little or what but it doesnt look like they will fit without rubbing so i was planning on just sticking with 265/70s for now. i noticed that a lot of tires in this size arent even classified as LT though. the REVO for example is only a P rating for this size. is the P rating ok for our vehicles or should i look at a different tire that i can get a LT rating in? any input?

the revo does come in a LT the article number is 156302 for the E load range and 156256 for the C load range.

P denotes a passenger car tire, you want an LT tire. LT=Light truck.

 

If it were mine i'd get a LT. in a C or D load range. the LT will be more stable with 4 passengers or while towing. the P will have a lesser tread depth (atleast for the revo) too. i had 285 revos in a D load range and 265 revos in a C load range and i couldn't tell a difference in ride quality.

 

get a lt and 265-75-16 should fit fine (285's usally rub a bit)

 

but like i said, the problem is the size. those LT ratings are only for a 265/75, not a 265/70. the larger tread will probably rub. at full tilt, the 265/70s are pretty close to the fender/running board...

 

If you're not going to be hauling a bunch of crap or wheeling hard, then get the P. The sidewalls will be softer and will give you a better ride. But, if you're going to off-road a lot and haul, LT would be better suited with its thicker sidewalls (harsher ride, though) and more aggressive tread. All depends on what you're doing with it.

BTW, my friends and I all have had +1 sized LT's with no rub, except at full lock and compression (mild rub, not bad at all).
