So on my way home from work tonight I was rolling along at 70 and my left rear tire tread separated from the sidewall really odd for a B.F.G. KO but it is was it is.

So I go to change the tire with the spare got the jack under the axle and started raising it up got the tire off and went to put the spare on and seen something funny looking on the passenger side of the axle so I take a better look and realize the torsion bar mount to the axle is broken off.

The welds from the factory broke clean from the axle and by that I mean the welds are still on the tower and all most zero welds on the axle.

Well I got the tire on and got home so now I have to get it to the shop to re weld it so kinda like a P.S.A. I would suggest everyone take a look at there tower welds on their axles

 

All I can say is wow.

 

How is that a good thing?

 

It made him inspect the rear end and catch the broken weld before something really bad happend.

 

the tire blowing was the good thing. ..which made him see a much more serious problem before anything excessively bad happend...

 

I didn't mean it like that. I was wondering how a broken weld, and a flat tire are good things.

 

No, I think he just likes changing tires.

 

he is saying that he would much rather change a tire and see the broken weld than he would picking up parts of his car off the side of the road after it falls apart.

 

maybe the tire broke the weld

wrong side of the axle and the tire stayed together just a patch of the center section works like a flap now
I will try to get some pics tonight when I get it to the shop before I weld it back up

maybe im missing something.. where in the rear would there be a torsion bar?? maybe we use differnt names for things around here.. i think what your talking about is something i would call a trailing arm?? what kind of rear set up do you have?? it is true what they say. it depends on what part of the country your standing in as to how dumb you are.. i may be standing in the wrong place..

Yea we are talking about the same arm just different terms still have the stock rearend on it my buddie is a master toy tech and thats what he calls it but you are talking the same thing.

 

Would this be a result from the lift? The 6" coils in rear?

 

Not at all just from bad welds from the factory

 

Solution:

JB weld the tire

JB weld the broken weld.

 

Took your advice and all is good now thatnks for the JB WELD hint

Happened to me too. Mine is stock though, so i assume it broke during axle travel.
