Loud Ticking driving me NUTS!!

So I just bought this 4runner 4 cheap. It had two burnt valves, I rebuilt the top end of the motor and I now have this loud ticking noise that is coming from the drivers side rear of the motor. It doesen't get louder or quitter with engine speed but does get faster with a higher RPM. Any ideas of what this could be?

Dumb question... Do you hear it inside the cab or outside the cab. I hear alot of complaints about internal cab noise and found the rubber grommet that the steering shaft slides through to be torn to pieces and a good source of engine noise in the cab.

It has the 3.slow in it, so no timming chain. The noise is defiantly comming from the engine compartment.

hmmmm injector? so hard to say my 91 4runner has had a ticking noise ever since i got it, well along with many other random noises.. but if its just a fint ticking noise, my first guess would be to check the injectors, also if you rebuilt the top of the engine.. your sure the valves are seating correctly? where were the 2 burnt out valved near the front or rear of the engine? my only other random guess could be intake mani gasket, had this problem on an old ford car of mine i had rebuilt drove me nuts, turned out just needed to be hot torqued a little more

Check to see if the rubber grommet is ripped apart at the steering shaft. Like I said I have had a bunch of engine noise complaints that were remedied by replacing this item. I do not know the exact nature of your noise, but I do know that if this is torn or damamged you will get excess cab noise. IMO the 3.0 is clicky anyway.
