Bench seat in a 1st gen runner w/ no rear heat?

I just picked up an 88 4runner with the mini center console and no heater for the rear passengers and was wondering if a 60/40 split bench seat, say from a 89-95 pickup, would be a straight swap if I remove the (broken to pieces) center console. For some reason I just like the 60/40 split benches with the fold down arm rest, and since I don't have that heater taking up the space I figure it would be a nice swap. If you've ever done/seen this I'd love to see some pics. And yes, I'm aware that I'd have to relocate the controls for the rear window/wiper.

Thanks!

I've got an 88 without the rear heater too. In the year I've had it, 3 people have sat in the back seat... one time each. So that's like 362 days out of 365 that no one's been in the back seat. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they climbed in the back window so... I'd like to know... bench seat anyone?

That's a good point, but like you I'm not even concerned about the rear passengers getting in. Plus, if the bench was from an extra cab it should fold far enough forward to allow passengers to enter and exit the rear seating area seeing how extra cab models have rear seats also.

My main concern is if the mounting holes are the same for 2 bucket seats as they are for a 60/40 bench. I would think that the 4runner cab is the same as a pickup cab, but sometimes things aren't always as they seem.

it may surprise you and bolt right up. i put a 60/40 in my old single cap pickup and it bolted right in instead of a one piece bench.

If the bench mounts on four holes (not eight) then it should bolt up.

You will have to cut a hole in the carpet and pull the "tape" off of the threaded hole that is there. Plug the old holes to the passenger seat

Did this not to long ago in my 87. Holes lined up except for the passenger side rear closest to the transmission hump and if I'm not mistaken driver side front closest to transmission hump. I drilled new holes and just used nuts and bolt to remount. When I did mine I had to remov the trim that came factory around the shifters. I couldn't slide the seat at all until I removed it. I took out the back seats so that I had more room for camping and recovery equipment so I'm not so worried about how people can get in the back. The passenger side seat slides further forward it seems like so you should be able to get someone back there if nessesary on that side.

Does anyone have any pictures of this after completion? I wouldn't mind having a bench in mine.

Yeah, plus my cheap aftermarket seats are shot and I am hoping I can get a bench for real cheap or free from someone that just swaped out with buckets.
