What is a 3.4 engine I read about

I have a blown head gasket, 1995 2-wheel drive pickup, 3VZ engine and I am weighing my options. In reading this and other forums I see recommendations to replace with a 3.4 engine. I did a search and came up empty.

Can someone provide details, i.e., what vehicle has them? Will it drop in my truck? What are it's advantages?

Thanks
Harry

Do a search here for 3.4 swap. Plenty of info, 96 & newer tacoma's and runners have them.

Oh, and welcome to YT

For one it is obviously a little bigger. It is a dual overhead camshaft engine with 4 valves per cylinder as opposed to 2 in the 3VZ-E. It has more HP and TQ. It will get the same MPG if not a little more. You can just drop it in but you will need special engine mounts, the tranny will bolt right to it if I remember correctly.

Thanks for all the speedy replys. That was exactly the information I needed. I think I'll pass on the 3.4 and look for a used 3.0 in the local yards. If that fails, I'll just do the repair.

If I was 65 years younger, I wouldn't be able to pass on that 3.4, it sounds good.

BTW, Simper Fi David.

Now to read about the gasket and timing belt replacements. Any good threads I should look at?

Again, many thanks and I will have many future questions.

Harry

No, you don't need any special engine mounts. You need the mounts from your 3.0 (same block casting as the 3.4), oil pan, dipstick tube, and oil pickup. They are all easily bolted on to the 3.4. If it's a standard, use the flywheel and clutch from a 3.4 and a throwout bearing from the 3.0. All in all, it is a very easy swap, mechanically.
