91 PU 2wd axle on 85 4runner swap...

Alright here goes:

I got a 91' toy pick up 2wd drive rear solid axle with 4.10 gears and locker. Obviously it has 5 lug hubs...but is there any thing else i should be worried about if i wanted to swap the axle on to a 1985 4runner?

Ideally if i can i would like to remove the locker, replace the hubs with the stock 85' hubs and swap the rear axle onto the truck. Inaddition i would like to put the locker in the front axle...

anyone see any flaws or thoughts or comments about this scenario? what about splines or missing 3rd member gears from where the locker was...

Basically i am learning as i go so this would be my frist time looking under the skirt of a 3rd member.

THANKS FOR YOU HELP!
(i was wondering if i should post this in the 3rd gen pick up thread...?)

Im not sure what exactly youre trying to do hear. Maybe im just slow today.

So you want to swap your 85 axle for a 91 2WD axle? then swap the axle shafts from the 85 to the 91 axle? Is that what you meant by the hubs? The 85 axle is 55" wide and the 91 2WD is 56" wide. So your axle shafts are different lengths.

Heres some good info on 2WD vs. 4WD axles. I didnt read it all, just skimmed through it. You can do the reading

Most of the 2WD axles are 7.5" ring gears. If that is the case, you would not be able to use any of the parts on your '85. Some did have 8" gears, so that would be the first thing to check. Also, spring under axle on the 2WD, spring over on the '85 (and all the 4WDs).

Salavage the locker?

Great, thanks i will check that next time i go to work on it.

Luckily i got it for free. no i just have to find someone to sell it to...

so if the pumpkin is 7.5" then the locker won't work either?

Thanks again.
