Sport Hood / Lift / Clean pics

no jokes this time i'm really putting up pics that you can actually see the hood and other panels now that they are not under 2 feet of snow like the last round of pics

i posted pics of the lift after install in December, night pics, these are day shots so it might look a little better. and now i can finally show off my sport hood all painted and cleaned up. didn't last long since it snowed another 3 inches last night, under about a quarter inch of ice but, enjoy the pics.

had a chance to wash it up without it freezing right away, it warmed up to about 40 degrees on sunday!

wow, is that SUN reflecting off the windows? haven't seen that in months!

a good side shot

and a view from the front as if you were about to be run over!

can't wait to get out in the garage and work some more. after washing the beast, it's apparent just how much i've neglected her cleaning. i've got so much tar and rail dust, the chrome is so sad and i have some touch ups to be done here and there. she's screaming for a good clay bar and buff!

got a few things i'm going to do when it warms up. Herculine the rockers and door jambs, finish modding the 1st gen roll bar for the back, turn signals relocated to the trim piece under the headlights, re-seal the headlights, fix my LEDs inside, i'd love to do the holes and dimples like Prospectator did on his bumper and then powder coat the bumpers, clean and POR-15 the undercarriage, Homelink / Lighted mirror visors (after i re-cover them), and the Hilux Surf hatch and tire carrier if i ever get the parts. whew! gonna be a busy summer!

Dude, I love your 4runner. Its simple and clean, the SS system is awesome too!

How many miles on the clock? I'm assuming pretty trouble free?

I'd highly recommend herculining the rockers, I did it to my 97 and never looked back. It covered up all the rock chips and I don't worry so much when crap gets kicked onto the side of my truck. I'm sure it'll look even better on your color runner, mine is black so its hard to see and appreciate but cool non-the-less

i've got 96K on it so far. all i've done is a new starter (should've just done contacts!), new battery, and when it's not freezing i have new valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube O-rings from a little oil leaking. all other money spent has been on fun and cosmetic upgrades. can't beat that!

i forgot to add new hitch to my "to do" list, i want to be able to use my bike carrier when it warms up too, maybe shed some of these winter pounds

Your rig is a beast alright, looks awesome man. No kidding Nate, I want a sport hood so bad myself. I will get one, one day. By the way, where did you find the sport hood because my 2000 Limited is the same color, Desert Dune Metallic and your sport hood matches up with the rest of the rig so well. Congrats Pattycakes

i bought the hood and misc parts from the dealer, 100% Toyota parts was pricey but i didn't want to skimp at all. i had it painted at a local body shop, my brother-in-law works for the dealership end and got me a discount. i was very concerned about the paint matching and quality of the job, and they did a great job. i can't tell a difference in color and there are only a couple spots of "dirt" in the paint, nothing bad. and i used to detail for 8 years so i am VERY critical of body work, they did this right. the hood and paint probably rang up at about $800, probably not the best thing i could have done with that money but, it's done, i can make more money.

i like the white letters out, i know most don't, but i'm a cheese ball. you can get the TRD stickers on ebay, that's where mine came from.

thanks guys!

btw - 500th post!!!! YAY!

Thanks Pattycakes...I will be going the dealer route as well. It's going to be expensive but it will be worth it. Man, that sport hood looks good. By ay chance, could you either post or PM me the all the part numbers if you still have them. I know it is not enough just to get the hood, there are OTHER parts that are involved, correct? So the $800 is the grand total, right? Hood, hood parts, and the paint?

The turn signal mod you have mentioned in several of your posts has me curious. Any pics of the conversion available? sounds like another addition to my to-do list as well. Yeah the sport hood is very nice indeed. Would like to find one for my 98, nice job!

Looks really solid. I've never been a big fan of those tacoma wheels but I guess they're growing on me because they look really good on your 4Runner! Nice work

here are part #s
53301-35170 Hood Sub-Assy, Sport Hood ($325.29)
76181-35901 Bulge Hood ($114.15)
76192-35010 Plate, Hood Bulge ($13.20)
76182-35020 Guide, Hood Air ($13.58)
76184-12020 Protector, Hood ($0.71) Don't Buy
76185-35010 Protector, Hood ($7.00) Don't Buy
90263-04054 Rivet ($0.57)
90167-45005 Screw, Pan Tappin ($0.72)
76183-12030 Protector, Hood ($0.71) Don't Buy
90179-06324 Nut ($2.20)
76187-35010 Retainer, Hood ($0.89)

don't buy the "protector" things, they are a waste of money. if you wanted to save more, you could buy the rivets, screw, and nuts from a hardware store. the "retainer" helps the "bulge" snap into place, but it's not really necessary, but for less than a dollar you might as well buy it.

when it warms up, i'll probably do a FAQ for the sport hood since i get a lot of PMs asking about part #s and what is needed. when it warms up again of course

yeah, the $800 was total for all parts and paint. but, that was with my dealer discount which i think is 15%-20%, and the paint was cheap thanks to an employee discount from my bro-in-law and i prepped it at an auto body class i was taking at the time; so no charge for priming or block sanding. so, with that said, it might cost you a little more for all this. you could always source your parts from one of the vendors on here since they give discounts, and shop around for the paint job and be picky about who does it, make sure they know you will scrutinize their work and they might take some extra time to make it right, that's what i did.

i'm still looking at several options. i don't want it to look out of place or gaudy so i'm taking my time to see what i want to do. it's either going to be some individual lenses, or i may cut into the trim piece and put a backing on it for the light to shine through. i haven't found exactly what i want yet, i'm thinking something easily serviceable with new bulbs should one burn out or replace with LEDs. i'm throwing around the idea of making them sequential too, but i need more research on this. there are kits on ebay for mustangs that look nice but only light up 3 bulbs in the sequence, so more research to see what i can do about that. i'll keep you informed Ritzy!
