A few months ago i high centered my 4runner on a stump, after a few minutes of desision making we decided to pull it out, and what we used was a skidder, ya i know a little overkill. With the winch hooked up on the rear bumber, the front crossmember held strong on the stump and instead of being pulled out the bumper was pulled off. Due to the stress that the skidder put on the bumper it pushed up and damaged the bottom of the tailgate. After a few months of shopping around online i finally decided to do something about it. A day ago i pulled the gate off and tried to pull the dents but i ended up making it worse. I just found a website that sells a complete tailgate but for a price of $735.00 dollars, i was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a site that sold just the skin or just the bottom. id look in the classifieds for someone parting a 4 runner out, or a junk yard...

 

Looks like you live in Connecticut. Odds are any 4Runners from the 80's are long gone from the salvage yards in that area of the country. In KC here, I found one 4Runner out of 10-15 large salvage yards, and it was pretty well stripped.

$750.00 sounds like a pretty good deal for a new tailgate. Would you mind posting the info for the vendor?
