ABS kicks in on speed bumps, is this normal for you?

so i just finished my tundra swap a few weeks ago, had a bad reman caliper, but thats been resolved. now a new issue has popped up.

while going over a speed bump at about 10 mph, if i am on the brakes at all, as soon as i hit the speed bump, the right front tire locks, makes a screeching sound (stopped tire on painted smooth surface), and then the abs kicks in.

is this normal? i have never had this happen prior to today, and i frequent parking lots with speed bumps.

my theory: tire bounces up and brakes grab hold, stopping the tire flat out, but the abs sensor tells abs to kick in because the rest of the wheels are not stopped.

i have not had this happen on the left tire (though i will go and try to make it happen tomorrow). no abs or brake lights come on when this happen, nor are they on during normal driving (and no they are not burned out)

so yea, need some input on this, and if it is a problem, a solution. i will be driving over 500 miles next weekend, and would like the truck to be in working order.

I've felt my ABS kick in on sharp bumps a couple of times over the last 8 years. I won't say it's at all common for it to happen, but it has happened.

I think your theory is pretty solid. It's happened on my dad's 97 a very times. But only when the shocks where worn out for the tire would hop very bad over bumps.

My 97' did that at times.Especially going downhill, breaking and hitting a bump.It hasn't done it since I put Bilsteins up front.

Your theory sounds good to me, this happens to me on occasion when hitting a nice bump while hitting the brakes. Not a big deal IMO. It's probably amplified from your combo of tundra brakes (better) and shocks I would assume. I'll be doing the tundra swap and SS 7.2 soon so we will see if this amplifies it for me

this would happen to me all the time on my '98 SR5 4WD. speed bumps, pot holes, uneven pavement, gravel or wet roads, just about anything!! after an accident on ice and no help from ABS besides that stupid noise i got so annoyed that i yanked the ABS fuse thus disabling the system and now i drive happy w/o ABS and never have problems. i know, some will say this is unsafe and ABS is better than pumping brakes and insurance, etc; but this works for ME and I am happy with it, just sharing my experience. there are plenty of vehicles on the road that are not ABS equipped, including some 3rd gen 4runners.
i would say, that if you like ABS stick with it. if you are confident that you can drive w/o it and you hate that sound and feeling when it goes bonkers on you, get rid of it. unless you live in a regulated state that will kill you for doing something like this. thankfully, i live in the free part of america and i can do what i like to my own property

hope this helps you out, good luck.
