So i just sold my OLD catalytic converter for...

...$135!!! to some guy in Chicago.

I posted it on craigslist about 2 weeks ago and totally forgot about it.

He just transferred me the money via paypal and I'm sending it out first thing tomorrow morning. He said if I have any more, he would be willing to buy them.

So if you have an old catalytic converter sitting out in the backyard and wanna sell it let me know. I'll give you his number and you guys can work something out.

here is my craigslist ad: http://slo.craigslist.org/pts/544706392.html

And if you really wanna get tricky, I would:
1. Order a highflow magnaflow (carsound) cat off of ebay for $62
2. Cut out your stock cat
3. Install the new highflow cat
4. Sell your old cat to this guy
5. Pop open a Corona and admire your new "free" highflow cat!

And with everyone getting their catalytic converters stolen, now's a better time than any!

AND i'm sure you had to pay some hazardous waste fee or some crap like that...

...and then, the shop owner goes and sells the old cat to some recycler who comes around every week.

thats nuts the guy bought it for $135 ... insane.. man u lucked out lol

Stock cats go for a lot of dough tho. Lots of nice minerals in em which is why the crackheads steal em and sell em to the recycler because its not monitored like copper recycling is and it SHOULD BE

aftermarket cats arent worth as much at the recycler so if yours is aftermarket your chances of it not getting stolen are better =)

my dad said the car hauler dude told him that in WA you have to have a tax number or something to recycle them. figures, right when we get an old car junked out and i bother to save the system section that has the cat and 2 pre cats. anybody know anything about washington rules on that? if its that valuble ill cut the stocker outta my ramcharger and take it in too. its exempt. my yota is lack of cat when i got it. straight pipe and a little muffler. loud.

Hey Reyna... You have your settings set to not receive PM's or emails...

Anyways, I have my stock cat from my 3.0 as well, I did a 3.4 swap and used the cats from the donor truck, so the old one is just chillin in the garage. I took it to a local scrap yard and they told me it wasnt worth anything. There is such a big hype from the media about peoples cats gettin jacked for scrap, I figured I was sittin on a jackpot. Let me know about that guy, I want to see if he is interested in mine.

well its yours, and they have no right to deny you from taking it. you can take it if you want to, its the LAW: you are entitled to keep ANY parts removed from your vehicle by a shop

i would have kept mine but i didnt want to wait for it to cool down. and it was so old i just left it at the place that did my exhaust. According to some regulation your supposed to change it every 3 years cause they can catch fire or cause a butt load of problems. and if submerged in water, replace sooner because the water can cause even more problems. So good riddens to expensive rubbish that only suits tree huggers anyway. i will NEVER be caught with a Cat. on my rig again. But good for you selling a dangerous item such as your Cat!

A local metals recycle place here in OKC gave me $140 for my old 93 cat. I asked the muffler shop that did my new exhaust if I could keep my old cat BEFORE they started the work. They said sure you can keep it.

I say sell your older cat before someone else does it for you. The newer cats are not worth much to the recyclers so they should be less likely to be stolen. The old cats were loaded with platinum and are probably getting clogged by now anyway.

In case anyone else in OKC wants to find this place here's where they are:

Although perfectly logical, I don't think the crack-head with the sawzall is going to care if a cat is new or old before he starts cutting.
