Quick question regarding crank/cam/chain alignment 22re

If looking at the top without the timing chain cover removed...if the camshaft mark is up and the piston (#1) is at the very top (top dead center)....does that mean it is aligned?

No, it should be slightly off to the passenger side of the vehicle, you want to align the pin that sticks out of the spacer thats between the head of the bolt and the cam sprocket itself.

It's just BARELY off to the left though...right? But, would you say it is aligned?

Yes, that's right. Like the previous poster said, it will look like it's off to the left slightly. Also, check the FSM to make sure the correct rocker arms are able to slide during the compression stroke.

FSM is the factory service manual. use http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/ if you don't have one.
he basically means to be sure #1 is in compression with the mark at around 11:00, or slightly off to passenger side of vertical. if both intake and exhaust rockers are free (not holding open the valves), you're in compression.
