87 runner, poss purchase?

This one is local to me and even though its got like 2 days left on auction its QUITE low in price. I'm hoping to go test drive it in the next few days and offer him cash on the spot or outbid the others.

I know it has some rust, is missing the spare and probably needs some TLC but the interior is spotless and it has new clutch, fuel pump/sender, and eng/trans rebuilt and master cyl has been replaced.

I figure if I can nab it for 1200 it will be worth it, rust dont bother me to bad unless its on the frame.

Well, I think that is a SPECTACULAR deal, and hope you get it.

I know I love my 87.

Oh, and as I'm sure you know, but unless you are buying in Socal, or AZ, you're gonna have rust on these trucks. Cannot get away from it. As you say, as long as the frame is sound, you're set.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Talk to the man in person, like you said. If you have to bid on it, use a sniping tool and bid the absolute most you want to pay. good luck.

Gonna try and pick it up tommorow or friday, only caveat is it seems to have auto hubs...oh well thats only some minor work on an otherwise very good truck for the cash..

For all those wondering just how I came out with it all:

Paid 811 bucks for this, its a giant rust bucket. The only thing thats good is 1. window works, 2. it drove, 3. it has some usuable parts.

Otherwise I am gonna remove anything worthwhile, take it to my shop and have them tow it to the yard for $. I should get about 200 bucks for it as they do it by weight.. Not to bad since I got good rear seats, a good top, etc..

Shame it isnt worth fixing, just to much rust.

WTF CJM, so it was that bad? All you got were seats and a top? Did you lose money on it?

That sucks.

The whole thing is a total loss really, any parts worth keeping I am gonna take off and store for now. All I really got was the stinkin top, the dash, tailgate and the rollbar.

The seats smell of mildew, and the rear ones look like something made its home inside them (underside).

For all those wanting parts:
I will be parting it out when I find another runner or truck, until then its gonna sit as I dont have time right now to dismantle it totally

Ill have to go snap some tomorrow as its dark now.

But so far like I said both front body mounts are gone, one behind the driver in the bed is gone, the front body on the drivers side where it connects near the pedals is totally rotten. truck drives but fuel gauge doesnt work, for some odd reason cruise control light comes on, if i hit the clutch start cancel the light wont go off, the clutch (just drove it again btw) aint been redone b/c it releases way to high and the shifter bushingis no good so i had a hard tme making sure im going into the right gear.

Most of the body is shot, the ass said it was surface rust in the ad (i could dispute them but not worth time time imho), like I said the interior crgo area someone put a system in and used packing foam, bubblewrap, expanding foam and a rag to insulate it, it has this incredibly bad wiring and deck in it, etc, etc list goes on and on and one..

I got taken, sadly and truly taken. Buyer beware. This is probably why the guy didnt return my phone calls till after i won it, cause i could gone and seen it as it was like 10 miles from me.

All in all I got an inclinometer, some ok rear seats (redo them?), a working tailgate that prob has hidden rust, a tilt wheel, the rollbar, the SR5 gauges, and a working drivetrain and misc other stuff. I figure once I find a good truck for about 2500 or so ill take the parts I want, part this truck out, and then send the rest to the yard for cash. 800 bucks, i paid imho 300 to much.

Lesson Learned......do not believe anything a seller tells you....never buy a vehicle sight unseen. Listen to what a seller doesn't tell you. Ebay is a dumping ground because most know the buyer will never inspect an old vehicle before the purchase. And, rust on the outside usually means rust some where else.

Now don't do it again...
