Adding PIAA Fog Lights to 2001 4Runner

Got a set of PIAA fog lights off eBay and want to add them to the fog light holes in the valance of my 2001 4Runner. I know that I will have to make a bracket to support them, but I'm curious about the wiring. I don't want to wire them directly to the battery, but I was wondering if I could utilize the wires hanging just behind the vacant holes in the valance. These have a white plastic plug on them and I assume are there to plug in the factory lights (if you had them...). Can I use them? If so, what do I need to do? I'm kinda of an electical noobie so don't spare any details thinking you might offend me...you won't! Lastly, there is not a fuse in the fusebox for the fog lights. I assume that if I use these wires I'd have to add one??

Thanks a ton for any assistance any of you can offer. I really appreciate it.

Yes, if you have the plugs there for the factory foglights you should be able to use them for aftermarket ones. As long as the load is close. I mean wattage. I'm running aftermarket higher wattage bulbs in the factory fogs and I'm not having any issues.

i believe the factory fogs are 55w.

if you ran a bit higher you should be fine.

Thanks for the info. If you don't mind, I have a few follow-ups:

- To use these wires, I just snip off the factory plug and wire directly to the lights, right?
- Do I need to put the fuse in the box for the fog lights before they will work?
- Are these factory wires tied to the headlights in anyway? In other words, are they only hot when the headlights are on? Low beam only?
- How do I wire the switch when using the factory wires?

I'll check the wattage on the bulbs because I'm not sure about that.

Thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it.
